From the Land of Canucks
It’s sometimes hard being a slightly … okay, very obsessive Sens fan and living in Vancouver.
I moved here in September 2007 to attend the University of British Columbia, and have found myself surrounded by people who are either Canucks fans — understandable, I suppose — or Americans. The second type of person knows almost nothing about hockey, while the first type generally cares little about the Senators. This might be because of the lack of coverage of the Eastern Conference out here and the CBC’s refusal to show anything but Leafs games to a western audience (a giant pet peeve of mine). It might also just be because they like the Canucks. Whatever the reasons for it, this lack of interest in the Sens in Vancouver leaves me with no outlet for all the Sens-talk that has built up in my brain throughout the season.
The SensNation forum helps with that problem to a certain extent, and, well, I do blabber on about the team to my friends here who are totally uninterested, as well as my group of online friends … but I think you can only get away with so much of that type of thing before you risk alienating everyone you know.
That’s why I’ve started this blog: to avoid boring all my friends to death with hockey talk. I feel it’s a noble goal on my part. Sometimes you just need to ramble about your team, and I will do that in this space starting in 2008.
I might also talk a little about my life, and my other interests, and maybe even the Canucks, who are actually a pretty decent team. Once you get past the fact that they’re not the Sens, of course.
