2007-2008 Season in Review, Part 1

So it’s hot outside, there’s baseball being played (Ottawa has a new team. Who knew?), and Stanley has gone to Detroit: all evidence that summer is truly here. There is no hockey in sight, so I think it seems like a perfect time to start my month-by-month recap of the Sens in 2007-2008. I will be watching the original Star Wars trilogy today, so I will call this:

Sens Wars: Episode I – A Continued Hope (The Pre-Season)
The Sens did well this pre-season. In fact, they were undefeated. I entered 2007-2008 with the belief that my boys would blow through this entire season with a fire in their bellies to get themselves back to the Final and finish up the business that was left unfinished in 2006-2007 and their performance in these admittedly meaningless games only cemented my belief. At the same time, though, I began to worry that the team might use up all its mojo too early, which could result in an early fade. Ominous thoughts indeed.

Memorable Moments: Dean McAmmond picks up his 07-08 right where his 06-07 left off, taking a vicious hit to the head from the Flyers’ Steve Downie in a game on September 25 (McAmmond had been taken out of the Stanley Cup Final after a similarly vicious elbow to the head from the evil Chris Pronger). McAmmond would miss the first 10 games of the regular season, while Downie would get a 20 game suspension from the NHL — the start of a trend for the Flyers this season.

Sens’ Record in Pre-Season Play: 7-0-0
