Hockey Morning in Vancouver

What a way to start the day!
A 12:30 game on a Sunday on the east coast is probably kind of nice. You’ve done your thing in the morning and you settle in for some pre-Superbowl hockey. When you factor in the three hour time difference between Washington and the rainy Pacific Northwest, though, it adds up to me needing to set my alarm clock in order to make sure I’d wake up in time for the game. It seems a bit wrong.
However, I am in the spirit. I have my tea in my Ottawa Senators mug. I had maple syrup with hockey-themed pancakes somewhere underneath it.

They named the pancake Ovechkin.
The game has been entertaining so far. It’s Alfie’s 900th career game and he started it off with a nice big three goal. Then the Sens starting taking penalties and that was, uh … an adventure. A very brief adventure. But you have to feel good about that third penalty kill, I think: some good work from Dean McAmmond and Jarkko Ruutu at the beginning of the penalty seemed to settle the team down. I commend those two for keeping an even keel.
And as I type this, oh dear. The second period has not got off to a good start.
